SOUTH AUSTRALIA's toddlers will be using apps in the classroom on tablets and touchscreen electronic boards in an Australian-first trial of high-tech devices for pre-schoolers. Prince Alfred College has signed an agreement with Samsung, which will provide the school's early-learning centre with the new device that blends a tablet, laptop and 65-inch touchscreen e-board.

When a 17-year-old high school student can sell an iPhone app based on another firm's technology and with no revenue for $US30 million ($28.6m), has the world gone mad? The Summly app, which at its core uses technology from Silicon Valley nonprofit research institute SRI International, summarised news articles to make them easier to read on a small screen.

DreamWorks tops compute-cycle record with 'The Croods'. It required a whopping 80 million compute hours to render, 15 million more hours than DreamWorks' last record holder, "The Rise of the Guardians." Between 300 and 400 animators worked on "The Croods" over the past three years. The images, from raw sketches to stereoscopic high-definition shots, required about 250TB of data storage capacity to make.
Working his dream job at Blizzard has allowed Luke Mancini to take the time to develop complete scenes rather than simple character sketches.

They are known as wearable computers and are yet to hit the streets, but already they are creating controversy. Google will soon give away and trial 8000 pieces of high-tech headwear known as Google Glass - a computer with a head-mounted display that can run apps, record high-definition video and is operated through voice commands
